What We Do
SARC brings people together through radio, learning, public service, friendship, and fun. The club runs three local repeaters (2 m and 70 cm), offers license classes and Volunteer Examiner testing, and supports public-service and emergency communications. Members get hands-on with construction projects, antenna building, digital modes, contests, fox hunts, Field Day, weekly nets, and outdoor operating at SARC in the Park. The focus is on active participation—getting on the air, building, and serving—rather than just talking about the hobby.
When We Meet
The club holds its regular monthly meeting on the third Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the Schaumburg Community Recreation Center (505 N. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg). Meetings begin with a short business session (officer and committee reports plus new business), followed by a break and a program (technical talks, demonstrations, equipment show-and-tell, or related topics). Additional recurring activities include construction-project sessions, SARC in the Park, Saturday breakfasts, and nets—check the club calendar for current dates and times.
How to Join
Membership is open to anyone interested in amateur radio. Annual dues are $30 (standard) or $25 (reduced for full-time students, active-duty military, or age 65+). Dues are due by June 30; payment in April–December covers through the following June 30. Complete the membership form and pay by Zelle (via your mobile banking app) or mail a check (include your call sign) to Schaumburg Amateur Radio Club, P.O. Box 68251, Schaumburg, IL 60168-0251. After payment you receive welcome details and access to the member roster. Contact the Membership Chairman via the committees page for questions.
Why Join SARC (homepage section; membership page also covers benefits)
SARC has been part of the local ham-radio community since the mid-1970s. Its strength comes from active members who enjoy learning, operating, serving others, and sharing knowledge. Membership gives you access to a wide range of activities—local VHF/UHF and repeaters, public service and emergency support, license classes, contests, digital modes, antenna and station projects, talks, demonstrations, fox hunts, and field events. You meet people who can answer questions, help with equipment, and introduce new ways to get on the air.
Visit a Meeting
Visitors are welcome at monthly club meetings—no membership or amateur radio license is required. A meeting is an easy first step to see what SARC is about, meet members, ask questions, and hear about current projects. Programs typically include talks, demonstrations, radio tips, and equipment show-and-tell, plus updates on club activities. Check the meeting page for the latest details before you come, then join us to learn more about the hobby and meet local hams.
